Hearing Loss & Hearing Tests

Common signs include asking people to repeat themselves, turning the TV up louder than others prefer, struggling to follow conversation in noisy places, feeling like people mumble, or hearing ringing in your ears. If two or more sound familiar, it's worth booking a test — even if you're unsure.

A complete adult assessment takes about 30–45 minutes, including the consultation and a full explanation of your results. Quick screening tests like tympanometry take only a few minutes, while specialised tests such as ABR can take up to an hour.

Not at all. Hearing tests are completely painless and non-invasive — no needles and nothing uncomfortable. Most simply involve wearing headphones and responding to sounds. Tympanometry uses a gentle change in air pressure that feels like a light popping, lasting only seconds.

Yes. Your audiologist reviews your audiogram with you immediately after testing, explains what it shows in plain language, and answers your questions — so you leave the same appointment knowing your hearing status and your options.

Yes, we test all ages including newborns. Objective tests like OAE and ABR need no response and can be done while a baby sleeps. For toddlers we use play-based methods that feel like a game. Early detection makes a real difference to speech development.

No referral is needed — you can book a hearing assessment with us directly. If your results suggest a medical condition needing treatment, such as an infection or perforation, we'll refer you to an ENT specialist.

Hearing Aids

There's no single best type — only the best for you. RIC models suit most people because they combine clear sound with a discreet design, but the right choice depends on your degree of hearing loss, ear canal shape, dexterity, and how visible you're comfortable with. A proper assessment answers this quickly.

Many of today's devices are remarkably discreet. Options like the Signia Silk Charge&Go IX sit nearly invisibly inside the ear canal, while slim styles like Styletto IX are designed to look modern and intentional. We'll help you choose a style that suits your hearing needs and your comfort.

If both ears have hearing loss, two are almost always recommended. Your brain uses input from both ears to locate sound and separate speech from noise — so two typically means better clarity in groups, less listening effort, and a more natural sense of direction.

With proper care, most hearing aids last around five to seven years. Regular cleaning, keeping them dry, and routine servicing at our on-site lab all extend their life considerably.

Yes, and we'd encourage it. Hearing the difference yourself is far more useful than any description. Get in touch and we'll arrange a demonstration at the clinic so you can experience the sound quality before deciding.

Signia Devices

They're the same engineering lineage. Siemens made hearing devices for well over a century, then spun off its hearing division as Signia in 2016. The name changed; the German engineering heritage continued. Signia is simply the current brand.

It depends on how demanding your listening life is. If you're often in noisy restaurants, meetings, or gatherings, higher levels (like 7 IX) do more automatically to keep speech clear. If you're mostly in quieter settings, a lower level gives excellent value. We'll advise honestly after your test.

A full charge typically lasts a full day, including some streaming. Exact runtime depends on how much you stream audio and calls. The charging case tops the devices up overnight and while you're not wearing them.

Almost certainly. Standard Pure IX supports modern iPhone and Android connectivity, and the BCT model uses Bluetooth Classic to pair with virtually any phone, including older devices — plus many TVs and tablets. Tell us your phone and we'll confirm.

Pricing & Warranty

Prices vary with style, technology level, and features — entry-level devices cost considerably less than premium models with advanced noise handling and Bluetooth. We stock the full Signia range at transparent prices and always talk you through options at different budgets. Contact us for current pricing on any model.

Yes. Alongside the premium Signia IX range, we offer reliable, genuine entry and mid-range Signia devices — so cost doesn't have to be a barrier to better hearing. We'll always show you options at more than one price.

Always. We supply only authentic Signia products with full manufacturer warranty — never grey-market imports. Your warranty and after-sales support are part of what you're paying for.

Cost depends on which tests are needed. Please contact us for current pricing, and we'll confirm exactly what your appointment involves before you come in.

Fitting, Repairs & Support

Yes. Our lab services devices from all major manufacturers, regardless of where you bought them. Bring it in for a free diagnosis and we'll tell you exactly what's needed and what it will cost.

Because we work in-house, many repairs and cleanings are done the same day or the next. More complex faults needing a specific part may take a little longer — we'll always give you a clear timeframe after the diagnosis.

In most cases yes — as long as the manufacturer's fitting software supports the model. Bring the device and, if you have it, a copy of your latest hearing test, and we'll reprogram it to suit your current hearing.

Yes — it's central to how we work. Your hearing changes over time, so follow-up adjustments, cleaning, and servicing are part of the ongoing care, not an afterthought. We're here long after the fitting.

Yes. We stock all common sizes (10, 13, 312, 675) as single packs or in bulk, plus chargers and accessories for rechargeable models — and we can advise on getting the longest life from each battery.

Tinnitus

For most people there's no outright cure, but that's not the same as no help. Tinnitus can very often be managed to the point where it no longer troubles you — through sound therapy, masker hearing aids, and coping techniques. Where it has a treatable cause, such as earwax, resolving that can remove it entirely.

Very often, yes — especially if you also have some hearing loss. Restoring the everyday sounds you've been missing reduces how noticeable your tinnitus feels, and Signia models with built-in tinnitus therapy add gentle masking sounds on top.

Usually not — it's most often linked to hearing loss or noise exposure. Occasionally, tinnitus in one ear only, or with dizziness, can point to something needing medical attention. That's exactly why an assessment is worthwhile: we can reassure you, or refer you on if needed.
