Tinnitus Relief

If you hear ringing, buzzing, or hissing that no one else can, you're not imagining it — and you're not alone. While there's no magic cure, the right approach can make tinnitus far easier to live with.

What is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is the sensation of hearing a sound — ringing, buzzing, hissing, whistling, or humming — that has no external source. It isn’t a disease in itself, but a symptom, most often of underlying hearing loss. For some people it’s a mild, occasional background noise; for others it’s constant and distressing, affecting sleep, concentration, and mood.

It’s also extremely common: a large share of adults experience tinnitus at some point, and it becomes more frequent with age and noise exposure. Crucially, help exists — understanding what’s driving your tinnitus is the first step to quietening it.

Important: Tinnitus can occasionally signal a treatable medical issue — so a proper assessment matters. In most cases it’s linked to hearing loss and responds very well to sound-based therapy and hearing aids.

How it affects daily life

How Tinnitus Maskers Work

A tinnitus masker is a small device that plays gentle, carefully chosen sound to move your tinnitus into the background — so your brain stops focusing on it. It doesn’t cover the sound the way loud music would; it eases it, so you can relax, concentrate, and sleep. The easiest way to picture it is lighting in a room. In the dark, your tinnitus is a single bright lamp — impossible to ignore.

A masker is like switching on the soft overhead light: it’s larger, gentler, and easier for your brain to adapt to, so both sounds settle into the background and neither one dominates your attention. If you think masking might help, a proper tinnitus assessment is the surest way to know — it lets us confirm whether a masker suits you and tune that relief precisely to your ears.

Quick self-check: turn on a running tap. If the sound of the water softens or "drowns out" your tinnitus, there's a very good chance a masker will do the same for you.

Signia Tinnitus Therapy

Many Signia hearing aids include built-in tinnitus therapy — so one discreet device can improve your hearing and ease your tinnitus at the same time. Your audiologist tunes the therapy signals precisely to your ears in our clinic. Signia tinnitus therapy is available across much of the Signia range, including Pure, Styletto, and Silk. We’ll recommend the right model for your hearing and your tinnitus.

Static Noise Therapy

A range of soft, customisable noise signals — from white to ocean-like sounds — that gently mask your tinnitus and help your brain tune it out over time.

Ocean Wave & Notch Therapy

Soothing, wave-like signals plus Signia's Notch Therapy, designed for tonal tinnitus — it works quietly in the background as you go about your day.

Control from the Signia app

Adjust your therapy sounds discreetly from your phone, so you have relief on hand wherever you are — at work, out socialising, or settling to sleep.

Two solutions in one

Hearing Aids That Double as Maskers

Because tinnitus and hearing loss so often go together, a hearing aid with built-in tinnitus therapy is frequently the ideal solution. Restoring the sounds you’ve been missing naturally reduces how prominent your tinnitus feels — and the added therapy signals do the rest.

It also means one simple device to look after, rather than juggling separate gadgets. For many of our patients, this combination is what finally makes their tinnitus manageable.
