CROS IX FAQs
CROS stands for Contralateral Routing of Signals. If one ear has hearing loss that can't be corrected with a normal hearing aid, a small CROS device on that ear captures sound and sends it wirelessly to a hearing aid on your better ear. You then hear sound from both sides through your good ear.
CROS is for people whose better ear hears normally — it simply routes sound across from the weaker side. BiCROS is for people whose better ear also has some hearing loss: it routes sound across and amplifies it for the better ear. After a hearing test we'll know which one you need.
No — and it's important to be clear about that. CROS doesn't restore hearing in the affected ear. Instead, it makes sure sound from that side still reaches you, through your better ear, so you stop missing conversations happening on your weaker side.
